Does anyone know the best paint to use that will look good over the anodized aluminum on a 4104??A colour of paint that would match. Thanks John |

If you can take a piece of the aluminum into an automotive paint supplier, they'll be able to match it so closely you'll hardly know what's the aluminum and what's paint. Fuel door or radiator fill door should be sufficient for them to work with. HTH, RJ PD4106-2784 Fresno CA |

Rustoleum is very primitive paint though. I use a lot of it, buy by the quart or gallon, shoot it through a paint gun. RJ's got the idea. Gary |

Finding paint that'll stick to shiny aluminum is the hard part. How about a clear satin epoxy or polyurethane? The color of the aluminum will show through and may look closer to the original than any paint. |

You need to use an etching primer on it first, that is going to cover the aluminum anyway. |

It may not be a bad idea to etch the aluminum before the etching primer too. I asked my painter about flames on my bus that extend part way down into the aluminum. He said he would have to tape the pattern out and etch it before he was confidant the paint would adhere well. |

Aluminum gets painted every day, just knock off the anodizing, pickle it, use an aluminum primer and go. BTW the coating on a new set of headers I have here is cool lookin' stuff. Gary |

John, I hear that washing with house hold Vinegar will etch the aluminum enough to be able to paint it . Might be worth a try. |

You have to knock off that anodizing first. I'd go to the paint store rather than doing it the old fashioned way. Gary |
