I am now officially a member fo the Windshield Changing Society - and proud of it! Did my 4104 this morning and it took about 2 1/2 hours with the help of my Son. As everybody is always nervous, I can tell you it really was not bad. My two tidbits - before you remove the old windshield, put a mark top and bottom where the strut goes so you can line up the new one first time. Second advice - you push the bead tool, you don't pull it! There were no instructions with the tool, and I spent 45 minutes getting in the first 6" of lock bead until I figured out I was using it backwards! Once I turned it around, it took 30 minutes to do the whole windshield. This would make a great you-tube clip to show others step by step how to do it. Had I known I was going to be sucessfull, I would have done it myself. Next time someone does one, consider making one, and make it a bit less stressfull for first-timers. One step closer to earning my official Bus Nut secret decoder ring! Ye Haw! Jim |

Good!! Windshields are like windshield wipers ,replaceable items , the change out should not be feared. Driving at night with new glass is a super delight!!! ENJOY!! FF |

It really was not bad at all - I was very hesitant, like others, and that's why I though I would let people know it really is pretty easy. Next time, I bet I have it done in under 2 hours. Jim |

River Rat LOL I changed two windshields on an mci and it only took about an hour and half. Now you know how to do it. Always remember" handle it like a piece of STEEL and you won't break it. If you handle it like glass, it will always break. My experience. I had a helper that we took the old glass out and then I got the new ones and he ran for cover and did not look until I was done. It was funny!! Gomer |

Great Job Jim. I was a little hesitant and asked Jack to give me a hand while he was visiting down the street. It was a lot easier than I thought, AFTER we were completed. And the new glass, as Fred said, I can't wait to drive at night. The Ole scratched glass was a pain. I bet its like when I first got glasses. Cliff |

The only good to come of my bus being destroyed by the fire is I'm forced to replace the glass... I, too, am looking forward to the first night drive once the new glass is in. The old glass I think was the original glass and let me tell ya... It was like trying to look through bathroom glass at night.. Spiderwebs galore and the glare from the haze was enough to give me a major headache after just a few minutes... Needless to say, I avoided driving at night. Just a few more pieces of glass, some instrumentation, rewiring, lights and she'll be good to go again... Of course, that's the "short list" of what needs doing now... but, it'll come with time. ^.^ When I can get around to doing my glass, I'll video it and upload it... The new seals sure look nice sitting in the box... So does the new windshield glass... I'll be happy when they're on the front of the bus, instead of in a bay. lol... -Mac |
